28th Annual Recycling Conference and Trade Show: May 18-21, 2008

Washington State Recycling Association

The Washington State Recycling Association (WSRA) is offering a scholarship for two university students interested in recycling to attend the 28th Annual Recycling Conference and Trade Show, May 18-21, 2008 in Pasco, Washington. The WSRA is committed to stimulating educational opportunities for up-and-coming professionals in the field of recycling by offering this scholarship opportunity. The Conference is held over 4 days, featuring educational sessions about recycling, networking opportunities, tours of recycling facilities and more. The scholarship program includes full conference registration, including educational sessions, workshops, entrance to the exhibit hall, tours of recycling facilities, social events, meals, and Recycler of the Year annual awards banquet. The event is attended by over 400 recycling professionals from around the Pacific Northwest. The WSRA is especially interested in getting this message to groups that are active in recycling or environmental issues. Applicants need to submit a letter stating their interest in the recycling field and attending the WSRA conference. Please submit this brief letter, including age, school, contact info, and a separate statement (min 500 words) on how you see yourself contributing to WSRA’S mission. Climate Change is focus of Civil Dialogue Training

Leadership Whatcom offers third "Productive Public Conversation"
Sat., May 3, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

The Spring 2008 Productive Public Conversation (PPC) will focus on how to more effectively communicate with local, state and federal legislators and fellow citizens when data debates seem to dominate the conversation. PPC participants will connect with the information state legislators have used to develop state bills that will guide policy and programs addressing climate change impacts in Washington State. Participants will practice strategies for keeping dialogue civil, and leave with a toolkit of skills and resources to support productive public issue discussions.

Open Space Conversation Salon Continuation

2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month

Next mtg May 3rd. Cindi Landreth will be facilitating a conversational salon structured as Open Space. The specific topics covered will be as creative as the attendees but will be based on Climate Change, Social Justice and Spiritual Fulfillment.

Hazel Wolf Environmental Film Festival

May 1-4, 2008
55 environmental films and shorts to be seen, a number of visiting filmmakers, speakers, panel discussions to participate in, and filmmaking workshops to check out.

It will be held at Johnson Hall, University of Washington, Seattle. To get to Johnson Hall from Red Square go down the steps near Suzallo Library toward the fountain. Johnson is the building ahead and to the right, across from Mary Gates Hall.

A Full Festival Pass is $60 ($40 student/ senior) which allows you full access to all films, panels, and workshops (Thursday evening, Friday evening, all day Saturday, and until 6pm Sunday)

Some of the films include Oil + Water, Everything’s Cool with Judith Helfand, Woven Ways, and When Clouds Clear, among others. For direction information as well of a more detailed description of the festival,

The Pacific Alpine Farm and Garden Project on Kelly Road and Everson Goshen.
Most small family farms are being sold for development or for joining "super-sized" farms. This 18.25-acre food-producing farm is probably the oldest organic farm in the state.

Herbal Gardening in the Outback

Learn to grow your own herbal medicines and culinary herbs in the Outback's Herb Garden this spring! Amanda Smith will be leading tours and work-parties every Monday from 12-3 in April, May and June, and other times by arrangement (fair weather only). Any and every one i welcome.

Seattle Green Festival

@ the Washington State Trade and Convention Center in Seattle,
April 12-13, 2008.

The Green Festival is a 2 day event co-produced by Global Exchange and Co-Op America committed
to the movement towards a just and sustainable society, featuring over 400 socially and
environmentally responsible enterprises, over 100 leading speakers, live music, and delicious
organic food and drink.

Volunteers are needed!!! They need over 1,200 volunteers for this event -Volunteers
receive free admission to the event all weekend, an exclusive organic and sweatshop-free

Open Space Conversation Salon

April 12th

This will be an opportunity for open conversation touching on the subjects of Climate
Change, Social Justice, and Spiritual Fulfillment facilitated by Cindi Landreth. Acting sort of as
a follow up for those who attended the Oct. 27th Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream
and who have seen the movie “What a Way to Go! Life at the End of Empire.” A few objectives
are to “create a ‘birthing center’ for people who want to meet others who have similar passions
and to foster and strengthen a new emerging dream: a stable culture of living systems of which
we are a part.”
It will be every 2nd & 4th Saturdays of each month
